On 3 May a group from CMVC with friends and family set sail from Newcastle on board Fred Olson's Balmoral to cruise the Norwegia Fjords. They were joined by another group of choristers from Chesterfield Male Voice Choir together with their friends and relatives giving a total group of 46 including 20 singers. Andris the conductor and Jenena the accompanist.
Everyone was a bit wary about the weather and crossing the North Sea but everything was fine. The food was excellent, the drinks flowed and the two parties soon gelled as one. The fjords were breath taking and one could almost visualise Kirk Douglas and his Vikings coming round the bend. The ship docked in two ports and the weather was favourable enabling those who wished to go out and explore these fascinating towns. The rest of the time was spent viewing the magnificent scenery and drinking in the numerous bars situated around the ship.
The choristers from both choirs combined to form Men Who Sing and during the cruise two concerts had been arranged in the main Neptune theatre area. There were about 500 seats in the theatre and we played to a full house on both occasions. Both choirs had solo artists who were well received. We sang our hearts out and Andris was pleased with our performance.
What an experience. Everyone had a wonderful time and we made new friends from Chesterfield with possibly a joint concert in the future.
